In the fall of 2020, the Food Pantry of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hawley was one of the recipients of both food and monetary donations from the Hawley Rotary.  The Hawley Rotary is part of Rotary International, the world’s largest service organization.  We thank them very much for their continuing support.
The St. Paul’s Food Pantry, founded in 2014, distributes approximately 40 meals each week to families and individuals in the Hawley Community.   St. Paul’s administers the program with the assistance of volunteers and the financial support and donations of non-perishable foods from the members of the congregation as well as community organizations and individuals.

St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hawley has received a $500 grant from the Greater Pike Community Foundation for their weekly Community Food Pantry.
Greater Pike Community Foundation (GPCF) was created to enable generous individuals, families and local businesses to maximize their charitable support through organized, targeted community philanthropy. The Foundation “provides a permanent and personal way to give back to the region we love and have worked so hard to nurture and maintain.”
The St. Paul’s Food Pantry, founded in 2014, distributes between 40 and 60 meals each week to families and individuals in the Hawley community.  St. Paul’s administers the program with the assistance of many volunteers and the financial support and donations of non-perishable foods from the members of the congregation as well as community organizations such as the Greater Pike Community Foundation.

The Food Pantry would like to thank the Hawley Rotary for their ongoing generosity with the Spring Food Drive at IGA.  We were selected to receive all donations from 2 days of the drive and received a lot of great items.  It is a great example of Community helping Community.

Reopening the Church
The Church Council has been hard at work putting together the protocols for re-opening the church. We are pleased to inform you that we are planning to have our first “in church” worship service on Sunday, August 2, 2020. Our time together for worship will be totally different than what we are used to. We still need to practice social distancing so pews will be roped off, we must remain 6 feet apart. We still need to wear masks even during worship time. There will be no singing for the foreseeable future. Communion will be done differently. We continue to do everything to keep our parishioners safe and healthy while following the guidelines set by the ELCA and the state of PA. Check here for updates as we compile a complete list of how worship will happen in the near future.

Church During A Pandemic
December 31, 2020
Out of love for each other and for our neighbors during this time of social distancing due to the COVID-19 virus, some activities at St. Paul’s are on a temporary pause until further notice.  The ONE exception is that we will continue to have our Thursday Food Pantry available. We will make some changes in how the food is distributed so that everyone is as safe as possible.  We feel this ministry is more crucial than ever before and want to keep it available.  If you want to drop off food please do so at the church office on Monday or Wednesday between 9a-1p.  Please ring the doorbell when you arrive and then we will instruct you where to leave the food so it can be gathered up and brought inside once you have departed.  If you, or someone you know, needs food our pantry is open on Thursdays from 9a-1p.

This decision to temporarily pause activities is not made out of fear or paranoia, but rather a firm conviction about our call to live as Christ's followers, loving and serving each other and our neighbors, caring for those most in need in order to protect and preserve human life.

These temporary changes will put us as a congregation in a less stable place financially. If you normally make your donations through simply giving, thank you - your support means the world to the congregation right now. If you normally make contributions by check or cash, you are invited to drop those donations at the church office or mail the checks to the church. We also have an app called Give-Plus which you can use to make electronic offerings. If you have any questions about your offerings please call our church office for assistance. If you would like to sign up for electronic giving please call the office and we will be able to help you set that up.

We will be continually evaluating our temporary pause on activities and will keep the congregation updated when changes are necessary. In the meantime, please check out our Facebook page daily for updates, devotionals, and information.  Anxiety can be as viral as illness. In this unusual time, we are called to re-center our-selves in Christ.  What does that look like? As a faith community, it looks like choosing to limit any possible spread.

Blessings and Peace be with you all!
